It’s never too late to wish people a Happy New Year! Time just seems to get away from you and before you know it, we are in the middle of the Month.

A cold germ and a computer break down has hindered our ability to get the news letter out sooner, but thanks to the great work of Jim Putnam’s son Anthony, we’re back on line.  Watch out for that virus that seems to hitting many of the Legion member’s computers. It can knock you off line for a while and give you a lot grief.
So to all our members and Curlers we wish you the very best for a very Happy New Year and lot’s of good curling.

The Hardy Rocks take on a challenge!

When Bill Driver presented the proposal to the club, that because of the closing  and demolishing of Ste. Ann’s Curling Club, the vinyl cladding from the inside of this club could be available to the Legion for installation in our curling rink. This vinyl cladding, which was only installed two years ago and is in excellent condition, could be ours if we were prepared to take it down and fetch it.
So here it was, on Monday January 16th
(a very cold day),  -
29 real hardy ‘Hardy Rocks’ answered the call, donned their warm clothing and work gloves, armed with tools and ladders proceeded to the old Ste. Anns club to take on the task.
After six hours of work, coordinated by Bill Driver, Sherry Pauli, and John Coutts the job was completed.  The cladding is now being warehoused in the barn belonging to Bob Cameron.  (THANKS BOB) Come May, the second part of the job will get underway, when once again the Hardy Rocks will assemble to install it in our Curling Rink.  It should help immensely to improve the look of our premises. Thanks guys, you all did a great job. It sure showed that we are a great bunch of guys with a lot of club spirit an the envy of many other neighbouring curling clubs.

Canadian Curling Association
Grant Application

The Hudson Legion Curling Club has applied for a Canadian Curling Association grant to assist with the upgrade of the club.  This program is available annually to curling clubs throughout Canada and provides financial assistance for infrastructure projects as well as business development projects.
The program which has been proposed will include the covering of the ice shed walls with insulation and cladding, (see above project information) and the installation of a de-humidifier. This will contribute significantly to the comfort of our curlers and enhance the appearance of the curling area.
The application was delivered by Bill Driver and Glen Ruiter to the Canadian Curling Association in Ottawa, in time for the January 13/2012 deadline.  A decision is expected by the end of February.

A copy of the presentation is available at the club.

Members are encouraged to read through the proposal. Questions and comments may be directed to Bill Driver @ wdriver@primus.ca
