General information about the Ladder

The Ladder is the top level of competition at our club.

Draws take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays although, typically, a person would only play on one of those days during any given week.

This season, there are 12 teams that compete for the overall club championship.
Members remain part of the same team during the entire season.

The convenor for the Ladder is Barbara Robinson.

The 2011-2012 curling season finished with two close and hard fought games between Team R. Maclean and Team J. Putnam for the club championship on sheet #1 and Team J. Bradbury and Team M. Stenberg playing for the club championship consolation final on sheet #2.

Rules

• the top four teams in the overall standings after Round 4 receive a bye for the first round of the playoffs
• the remaining eight teams play a preliminary round with the highest ranked team playing against the lowest ranked team, the second highest against the second lowest etc.
• each game is eight ends long
• in case of a tied game after eight ends, a full extra end must be played to determine the winning team except if the Time Rule applies (see below)
• a team that does not have a minimum of two of its permanent members will lose by default, as per CCA rules
• after each round, the team match-ups will be done so that the highest ranked remaining team plays against the lowest ranked etc.

The following time rule will be applied in the Ladder.

Time Rule

For games that start at 7 pm, the 8th end can be started ONLY if the first rock can be delivered before 8:50 pm. If it is later than 8:50 pm and the game is not tied then it is considered complete. If the game is tied then the 8th end is played with only one rock per team (sweeping is permitted and any player can throw the rock).

Rules

• points: for teams in Group “A” - 10 for a win, 6 for a loss, 0 for a default
               for teams in Group “B” - 9 for a win, 5 for a loss, 0 for a default
• each game is eight ends long
• in case of a tied game after eight ends, a full extra end must be played to determine the winning team except if the Time Rule applies (see below)
• a team that does not have a minimum of two of its permanent members will lose by default, as per CCA rules
• if a team does not have at least two of its permanent members the game can be rescheduled but must be completed before Feb. 15

Each team will start Round 3 with half of the points at the end of Round 2.

The following time rule will be applied in the Ladder.
