Hardy Rock opening Event

This is the opening event to be played for the Hardy Rock Trophy. It is a chance for new players to learn the shots and for returning players to get in some practice and get ready for the coming season.

New players will get 1.5 hours of instruction before starting their first shots.

You will see that there are 8 shots listed at the end of this memo but each player will be responsible for only 5 different shots.

All players will do shots 3 (draw to the button) and 7 (take out) in addition the players will make the following shots:

Lead – shots: centre line guard, come around, and draw to the 8 foot

2nd     - shots: come around, raise, and draw to the 8 foot

3rd - shots: come around, raise, hit and roll

Skip - shots: raise, hit and roll, chip and roll

Playing against another team each player will throw 3 practice rocks for a particular shot and then throw one rock for points. For example the two leads will alternately throw their 3 practice rocks and then their rock for points. Then the two 2nds will throw their 3 practice rocks plus a rock for points, then the thirds, and finally the skips will throw their shots in the other direction.

Since any new players will have been there for 1.5 hours already on the first day (Tuesday Oct 11) the teams will only throw for two shots. On Thursday the teams will practice and throw the remaining three shots.

On Friday the teams will get one practice shot and then throw one shot for points. Each player will play two shots; everyone will do a draw to the button and one other shot of their choice. The points will double on Friday.

The leads and seconds will all do their shots first. Then the thirds and skips will do their two shots. The teams will throw their shots in order starting with the team with the lowest score and ending with the team with the highest score.

Come on out and practice those shots that you will need all year!
